What IPX5 actually means for you
In plain English? It means you can hit these units with water jets from any angle and they won’t blink. We didn’t just throw some tape on the edges. We used a mix of tight gaskets and hydrophobic coatings that basically tell water to get lost. Instead of letting droplets pool around the quartz tube or soak into the electrical connections, the housing just sheds the liquid immediately. It also stops that annoying “fogging” effect. Saving your reflectors
Moisture does more than just fry the wires. It eats your reflectors. By sealing everything up, we keep that reflective surface mirror-clean. The real-world trade-off
Here is the thing you need to know: nothing is perfect. Since we’ve sealed the unit to keep water out, there’s less passive airflow around the back of the housing. Because of that, the external casing runs a bit hotter than those open-frame heaters you might be used to. Just make sure your mounting brackets are rated for the extra heat. But the payoff is huge.
