
Why we put our IP65 heaters through the “damp-heat” ringer
You’ll see a lot of bathroom heaters bragging about an IP65 rating. On paper, that looks great. But here’s the thing: a seal that works while sitting still on a shelf isn’t the same as a seal that works in your bathroom. Think about it. You jump in a hot shower, the room fills with steam, and then you turn it off. The temperature swings wildly. That creates a pressure difference that basically sucks steam right into the heater’s housing as it cools down. If those seals aren’t perfect, moisture hits the electrical terminals. And that’s exactly how you end up with a short circuit or a dead heating element.
The “Wet-Heat” Stress Test
We don’t just spray some water on the casing and call it a day. That’s too easy. Instead, we put our infrared lamps through damp-heat aging cycles. We basically compress years of bathroom use into a few weeks. We cycle the heaters between scorching heat and heavy humidity over and over. Why? Because we want to see the materials expand and contract. We’re looking for gaskets that start to “creep” or contact points that start to rust. If the wiring insulation or the quartz envelope starts to give up under that kind of pressure, it doesn’t make the cut. Simple as that.
The balancing act
Infrared lamps get incredibly hot. When you wrap that heat in a waterproof IP65 box, you’re essentially trapping all that energy inside. It’s a tricky balance. If the seal is too rigid, it’ll just crack when the heat hits. Too soft? It leaks. We settled on specific silicone-based gaskets. They have a bit of “give,” so they keep their shape and stay tight even after they’ve been heated and cooled a thousand times.
A quick reality check
Look, no seal lasts forever. Our tests make sure these heaters can handle the usual bathroom steam, but you’ve still got to be smart. If you’re scrubbing your walls with harsh, caustic chemicals every day, those cleaners can eventually eat through the gaskets. Also, give the unit some breathing room. If you choke off the airflow during installation, the internal electronics are just going to cook themselves. We build these things to take a beating, but they still need a decent environment to actually last.
