The “Bake and Crack” Problem
Infrared lamps get incredibly hot. If the sealant used to plug that gap isn’t up to the task, it starts to shrink. Then it cracks. I’ve seen it a million times with cheap adhesives. They basically “bake” under the heat until they’re brittle. Once that seal pops, rain and humidity crawl right into the electrical junction. That leads to oxidation, a nasty short circuit, and a heater that won’t turn on. The professional way to do this is with high-temp silicone or ceramic potting. Why the Craftsmanship Actually Matters
Some companies try to cut corners with simple heat-shrink tubing. Trust me, that won’t hold up. We do things differently. We use a multi-stage process to chemically bond the lead wire to the housing. It creates a vacuum-tight barrier that stops water from wicking up the wire and hitting the coil. But you can’t just make the seal “strong.” It’s a balancing act.
